Auckland Aces vs Canterbury Kings Preview & Tips
The Auckland Aces rounded off their regular season campaign with an eight-run over the Central Stags, thus confirming their place in the top two.
Canterbury Kings saw their winless run extended to five matches after their no result in their final group game.
- The Aces have won three of their last five completed matches (L2)
- The Kings are winless in their last five (L3, NR2)
Head To Head
The Aces have won five of their last 10 against the Kings, with Canterbury winning the other five.
Auckland Aces Form
Auckland Aces have been fairly consistent across their regular season campaign, winning five matches and only losing three games, with two ending as no results.
The 24 points they have picked up means they finished in second, which is far better than their woeful bottom placed finish last season. Now, they have the chance to continue their redemption as they battle in the playoffs.
While the Aces have not been perfect of late, they have bettered the record of their opponents. Meanwhile, they boast wins in four of their last six T20's against the Kings, while they hammered their opponents by nine-wickets in their meeting earlier in the month. With this in mind, I am backing the Aces to take their place in the final.
Canterbury Kings Form
Canterbury Kings have lost all momentum at the worst possible time, with a string of defeats and no results meaning they arrive for this one without a win since January 10.
In this time, they have lost to Auckland (by nine wickets) and Wellington in two matches (by 88 runs and by 13 runs). Meanwhile, they have seen matches against Otago and Northern Districts abandoned.
While a playoff match is not one they will need any reason to pick themselves up for, I worry that their poor run will come back to haunt them. The Kings relinquished the chance to go through top due to their form, and I predict they will miss out on a place in the grand final.
Verdict
I am backing the Aces to secure the win in this one as they take advantage of Canterbury's woeful run of form.
