England vs New Zealand Women 3rd T20 Preview & Tips
England Women arrive for the third and final Twenty20 against New Zealand looking to bounce back from a disappointing batting display in the second T20.
New Zealand Women are on the cusp of a major series win in England as they put an end to a nine-game losing run against their opponents in the T20 format.
- England have won nine of their last 10 against their opponents
- Sophie Devine has scored 45 and 87 in the series for New Zealand
Head To Head
New Zealand have won one of their last 10 against England in the T20 game, with the English winning the other nine meetings.
England Women Form
England Women failed to follow up a win in the first T20 as they were beaten by 14 runs in the second meeting in Canterbury.
With the ball, England restricted New Zealand to 170/5 and despite the best efforts of Sophie Devine (87), their total look entirely chaseable. However, England's batters once again struggled. Their top four all made it to the 20-run mark and beyond, but none could go on and build an innings like Devine.
England's batting will be a major point of focus for both the home side and any of the teams they will face at the upcoming World Cup. The third and final T20 needs to end in England's batters standing up to be counted. I predict that they will secure a win and the series at the start of the week, but whether their batting will consistently hit the required level remains to be seen.
New Zealand Women Form
New Zealand Women were outstanding with bat and ball in the second T20 as they fought their way to 170/5 before restricting England to 156/6.
While wickets were at a premium on a day when only 11 fell, economy rates were in the spotlight. Ultimately, the White Ferns saw all four of their bowlers that were bowled out return rates of 8.00 or below. While wickets are always key, ensuring the opposition are not given easy runs and big overs will usually be the difference when wickets do not fall freely.
Sophie Devine continued her outstanding form with the bat as she plundered 87 runs from 57 deliveries. Her score was made all the more impressive as Devine and Maddy Green (56 not out) met with the score at 11/4 after 3.4 overs. To win from that position underlined Devine's importance to this team, and I back her to continue to impress in the third T20.
While I do not back the White Ferns to secure the win in this one, this series has likely done enough to prove to New Zealand that they can jostle with the very best in the game.
Verdict
I am backing England Women to secure the win despite Sophie Devine continuing to score runs for the tourists.
