England vs South Africa 3rd ODI Preview & Tips
England slipped to a series defeat at the hands of South Africa in the second ODI as their five-run defeat means they are 2-0 down with a single game to come.

- South Africa Form
South Africa have been superb with bat and ball in their series against England, and they are fully deserving of their 2-0 series lead.
- Joe Root scored 61 in the second ODI
- Jofra Archer took 4/62 in his last outing
Head To Head
In their last 10 ODI meetings, South Africa have won seven with England winning the other three.
England Form
England have not been consistent enough in their ODI series with South Africa, with their exploits with both bat and ball costing them.
In the first ODI, England were blown away with the bat as they were skittled for just 131. The second ODI saw South Africa notch 330/8 as England struggled to make consistent breakthroughs. While they have shown glimpses of their quality, they have been beaten by a better side that is more consistent.
Backing either side in the win market is a tough one as this is a dead rubber. England cannot win the series with South Africa 2-0 up. Will the Proteas take their foot off the gas as they look forward to the T20 series? Will England suddenly spring into life? Or will we simply be left with the same proposition once again as England are beaten by a side that are playing better cricket than them right now?
Two things I do back are Jofra Archer to take wickets and Joe Root to score runs. Root notched a half-century in the last ODI while Archer took four wickets. I back the pair to star for England once again.
South Africa Form
South Africa have been excellent against England, enjoying a big win in the first ODI before then holding their nerve in the second ODI to win by five runs.
While the second ODI was a tight win, the margin of victory does not reflect how much better the tourists have been. South Africa look solid with the bat when necessary before turning it on with their big hitters. With the ball, they have been miserly when needed whilst wickets have come at important times. They deserve to win this series.
I would back them in the winner market but the final match of an already decided series can be a strange one. I can honestly see either side winning in a game that will likely be even closer than the second ODI.
Verdict
I am backing a fifty for Joe Root and the most wickets for Archer as the pair star for the wounded home side.
