New Zealand vs Bangladesh Women Preview & Tips

New Zealand Women have to beat Bangladesh in their third World Cup match after slipping to defeats in their opening two games.

Bangladesh are still in a good position despite their defeat to England in their second match of the tournament.

  • New Zealand have beaten Bangladesh by nine wickets and eight wickets in their two ODI meetings
  • Sophie Devine has scored 112 and 85 in her two World Cup games

Head To Head

The pair have only met two times before in the 50 over format, with New Zealand notching two dominant wins.

New Zealand Women Form

New Zealand Women have started the 2025 Women's World Cup in torrid style, slipping to defeats at the hands of Australia and South Africa.

Defeat to arguably the best side in the world in Australia was hardly surprising, but their loss to South Africa would have hurt them. South Africa are a good side, but they are fairly well-matched with New Zealand. This made their six wicket loss to South African even worse, with New Zealand now pointless after two games.

They simply cannot afford to lose to Bangladesh in game three. With games against sides like India and England still to come, New Zealand will likely lose at least two more matches. This makes beating teams like Bangladesh, Pakistan and Sri Lanka even more important.

While New Zealand have struggled in both of their games, Sophie Devine has been on fire. Scores of 112 and 85 shows she is in great touch with the bat, and I back her to continue her sparkling form with another good score.

Bangladesh Women Form

Bangladesh Women almost came back from the brink in their clash with England, only for the latter to prove their quality as they ground their way to their target.

Being bowled out for just 178 was always going to be an issue, especially against a side with the firepower England boast. However, had it not been for Heather Knight's assured 79 not out, things could have been different. Ultimately, Bangladesh were beaten as they gave England too low a target with too much time to score the runs they needed.

In game three, Bangladesh have to find a way to score consistently and give their bowlers a total to defend. However, in a game in which both sides need a win, I am backing against Bangladesh. They may have beaten a poor Pakistan side in game one, but I do not back them to snap a two-game losing run against the Kiwis in the 50 over format.

Verdict

I am backing New Zealand to get their first win at the 2025 Women's Cricket World Cup as Sophie Devine continues to lead her side with the bat.
