New Zealand vs England 3rd ODI Preview & Tips
New Zealand have taken full advantage of England's woeful ODI form by taking a 2-0 lead over their opponents in their three-game series.
England have been awful with the bat in their ODI series with New Zealand as their inconsistencies in the 50 over format continue.
- England have lost four of their last five in the ODI game
- Daryl Mitchell has twice top scored for New Zealand with 78 not out and 56 not out
Head To Head
England have won six of their last 10 ODI matches against the Black Caps, with New Zealand winning the other four, including their last three.
New Zealand Form
New Zealand have not needed to be at their best with the bat due to the potency of their bowling line-up across their ODI series with England.
The Black Caps have effectively taken 400/20 in their two ODI's, with England's batting unit rarely able to break the shackles the home side have put on them. When asked to chase a score, New Zealand have had a wobble in them, but Daryl Mitchell has twice come to their rescue, returning two not out scores in match-winning performances.
While England will go all out for a morale-boosting win in their final game, I back New Zealand and Mitchell to continue to kick England while they are down. Mitchell has continued to be a thorn in England's side, and I predict that their best laid plans will come to nothing as he helps the home side ease to a 3-0 win.
England Form
England have not been able to build competitive scores in the ODI game of late, with a lack of consistency in the side really hurting them.
Harry Brook smashed his way to 135 from 101 in the first ODI but, aside from Jamie Overton's 46, no other batter could make it into double-figures. When Brook failed in the second ODI, no other batter could stand up with the exception of Overton, who scored 42. For the number eight batter in a side to outscore every other batter bar Brook over the course of two ODI's is hugely worrying.
England have to find balance in their batting line-up, and this is something that even a great like Joe Root needs help with. If England are to get back to winning more consistently, they need to ensure that they can still score runs even when their big-hitters fail. A fix like this will take time, and I back England to slip to another defeat in the third ODI.
Verdict
I am backing Daryl Mitchell to top score for New Zealand once again as the Black Caps secure a 3-0 series win.
