New Zealand vs West Indies 1st T20 Preview & Tips
New Zealand's last T20 game ended in a heavy 65-run loss to England as their losing run in the format was extended to three matches.
The West Indies eased to a five-wicket win over Bangladesh in their last T20 as they secured a 3-0 series win over their opponents.
- The Windies have lost six of their last eight T20's against New Zealand
- Daryl Mitchell top scored for the Black Caps in two of their three ODI's against England
Head To Head
New Zealand have won seven of their last 10 T20's against the West Indies, with the latter winning the other three.
New Zealand Form
New Zealand impressed in their recent ODI series against England as they continually restricted their big-hitting opponents to less than 250 runs.
In truth, New Zealand were able to take advantage of England continually falling apart when batting first. However, the Black Caps should be commended for their tight bowling that kept the score down and England on the back-foot.
With the bat, Daryl Mitchell continually shone. He top scored in both opening games for the Black Caps, while he scored 44 in the third ODI, just two less than New Zealand's top scorer Rachin Ravindra (46). I back Mitchell to continue to impress in the shorter formats as he top scores for the home side.
West Indies Form
The West Indies made it four consecutive wins in the T20 format as they battled for a 3-0 series win over Bangladesh.
While any away win is an impressive accomplishment, Bangladesh seemed below their best in a set of low-scoring contests. While the Windies were solid with bat and ball, they hardly needed to blow their opponents away.
While the Windies will likely have their moments in their clash with New Zealand, I do not back them to pick up the win. The Black Caps have won six of their last eight against their opponents in the shortest format, and I back them to extend this impressive run.
Verdict
I am backing Mitchell to top score for the home team as he leads his side to a win over the touring side.
