New Zealand vs West Indies 4th T20 Preview & Tips


New Zealand built on the momentum of their win in the second T20 by securing another tight win in their third outing to move 2-1 up in their series with the West Indies. 

The West Indies were once again squeezed out of contention for the win by a New Zealand side that bowled superbly.

  • Tim Robinson has scored 27, 39 and 23 across the opening three T20's

New Zealand have won seven of their last 10 against the Windies, with the latter winning the other three.

New Zealand have found a way to edge to a pair of wins over the West Indies with single-digit winning margins showing the difference between the teams has been smaller than most would have expected. 

Sent into bat for the second consecutive time, the Black Caps battled their way to 177/9 as Devon Conway (56) and Daryl Mitchell (41) starred. Tim Robinson continued to provide runs at the top of the order with his third consecutive 20+ run score. 

With the ball, Ish Sodhi and Jacob Duffy both took three wickets as the Windies were checked at regular intervals. With the winning margin standing at just seven runs, the exploits of the pair were vital as they took momentum away from the tourists at important moments. 

Momentum has generated positive performances for the Black Caps so far, but it will be interesting to see if they can secure a third consecutive win if they are to bat second. So far, the side batting second has lost the opening three matches, so winning the toss could play a major role in which side secures victory in the fourth T20. 

West Indies Form


The West Indies struggled to hit New Zealand early with the ball as they saw their hosts move to 97/1 in just over 10 overs. This frustrating lack of incision earlier in the match saw each of New Zealand's top four score 23 runs or more, with Conway starring with 56. 

With the bat in hand, the Windies lost regular wickets and were teetering at 88/8. While Romario Shepherd (49) and Shamar Springer (39) almost dragged the touring side to an unlikely win, they were left with too much to do. 

The fourth T20 is a massive match in this series. A win for the Windies sees the score levelled with a game to come, while a win for the Black Caps means the series is over as a contest. While the Windies will go all out to win this one, I believe they will lose for the third consecutive time against their opponents.  

Verdict

I am backing yet another 20+ run score from Tim Robinson as New Zealand grind their way to an unassailable 3-1 series lead with one game to come.
