Argentina vs South Africa Preview & Tips

Argentina are looking to end their Rugby Championship campaign with a big performance as they take on the world champions in their final match.

South Africa can ensure they claim the Rugby Championship trophy with a bonus point win over their opponents.

  • Argentina have lost 10 of their last 11 against the Springboks
  • Cheslin Kolbe has scored three tries at the Rugby Championship in 2025

Head To Head

South Africa have secured wins in nine of their last 10 against Argentina, with the Pumas snatching a single win.

Argentina Form

Argentina have blown hot and cold at the 2025 Rugby Championship, securing two wins from their five games. After four matches of the tournament, Argentina were still in with a chance of securing the trophy, but their penultimate match has put their title hopes to bed.

A 67-30 loss to South Africa last week was born out of a stunning 42-7 second-half loss that saw the Springboks put the afterburners on. Ultimately, South Africa put their class on show. Argentina have made huge strides in recent years, but their loss to South Africa shows that the very best are still out of their reach.

Frustratingly for Argentina, their final match will not be a home game as they host South Africa at Twickenham. If their final match was played on their own patch, then this might be a lot closer. However, I predict that Argentina will feel the full force of the power of the reigning champions.

South Africa Form

South Africa were supreme in the second-half of their clash with Argentina as they swatted Argentina aside in a 67-30 win.

Their triumph means they have moved to the top of the standings with 15 points and a points difference of +55. New Zealand sit behind them with 14 points and a -6 points difference. South Africa’s hugely superior points difference is effectively an extra point to their tally.

If South Africa are to beat Argentina with a try scoring bonus point, they will retain their trophy. If they beat Argentina without a try scoring bonus point, New Zealand can still secure the trophy. However, they would have to hammer Australia. If the Springboks beat Argentina by a single point, they would have a points difference of +56. This would mean New Zealand would need to beat Australia by 63 points to move above their opponents.

While the All Blacks are still technically in the hunt, I back the Springboks to do the business and keep the trophy from New Zealand’s clutches as Cheslin Kolbe continues to torment defences.

Verdict

I am backing South Africa to easily beat Argentina as Kolbe does what he does best and scores another try.
