England vs Australia Preview & Tips

England arrive for the first match of their November Test series looking to build on from a trio of wins across July as they accounted for Argentina twice and the USA once.

Australia just about squeezed past Japan in their last outing as they secured a hard-earned 19-15 win.

  • Australia have lost three of their last four matches
  • England have won two of their last three against their opponents
  • Immanuel Feyi-Waboso has scored five tries in nine England caps

Head To Head

England have won eight of the last 10 meetings between the pair, with the Aussies winning the other two.

England Form

England arrive for their November Tests welcoming back a range of talent that was away with the British and Irish Lions across the summer. While there is a raft of world class talent returning, it makes things more difficult for coach Steve Borthwick, who saw his depleted side impress across July.

Excellent wins over Argentina twice and the USA saw a range of players impress. Particuarly good was George Ford at fly-half, and his exploits with the ball in hand along with his superb leadership means he has been given the nod at 10 ahead of Finn Smith, who is on the bench.

The biggest call comes as Ollie Lawrence is omitted, with Northampton winger Tommy Freeman preferred in the middle. With Australia providing some real presence under the high ball, Borthwick has clearly looked to pack his aerial threats, with Freeman in the middle and Immaneul Feyi-Waboso, Tom Roebuck and Freddie Steward playing in the back three.

Feyi-Waboso will want to prove his worth on the flank as there is a range of brilliant wingers looking to break into the side right now. I back the Exeter Chiefs winger to star for England as he leads his side to an important victory in their opener with a try in their clash.

Australia Form

Australia have struggled for consistency of late, with the men in green and gold slipping to three consecutive defeats at the end of the Rugby Championship. Their next assignment saw the Aussies just about beat Japan as they edged to a nervy 19-15 win.

Their struggles on the scoreboard followed a strong start to the Rugby Championship that saw Australia beat South Africa in their opener before then beating Argentina. These wins came on the back of a 29-26 loss to the Lions in the second Test, with the Aussies on top before they then defeated their opponents 22-12 in the final Test.

While the Lions did win the series 2-1, the Aussies would likely have felt hard done by as they were the better of the two sides across the three Tests.

However, travelling to London will not be easy for the Aussies, and I back their poor run to continue as they slip to a fourth defeat in five games with a number of key players missing. I predict this will be built on George Ford controlling the game and the aerial battle becoming more even with England choosing to go with a number of aerial threats with the weather likely to result in a lot of high balls.

Verdict

I am backing Feyi-Waboso to score a try for England as the home side secure an important win in their opening match in November.
