Ireland vs South Africa Preview & Tips
Ireland roared to a 46-19 win over Australia in their last outing as they prepared for their clash with South Africa in style.
South Africa secured a painstaking 32-14 win over Italy in their last match as they had to once again contend with going down to 14-men.
- South Africa have won all three of their November internationals in 2025
- All of the last four meetings between the sides have seen the margin of victory stand at between 1-12 points
Head To Head
In their last 10 meetings, South Africa have won four times, with the Irish winning the other six.
Ireland Form
Ireland's 46-19 win over Australia was a lot of fun to watch as their six-try salvo blew the Aussies away in a record win over the men in gold.
However, it was only last week that the topic of conversation was Ireland's rusty attack that looked unable to consistently breakdown a very open Japanese side. While Australia have shown flashes of their quality over the last year, they have been getting worse of late, with their second-half performances particularly bad.
Of course, a win is a win, and Ireland will have taken their second victory in three November internationals as the positive it is. However, if they are to come out of the series with a positive winning ratio, they will have to kick things up a few gears this weekend.
With the double world champions in town, every inch of space will be hotly-contested. The Springboks arrive having beaten France and Italy without keeping 15 men on the pitch for the majority of either game.
Ireland have looked clunky in attack at times, while they have also looked like they have tired early in matches. With Andy Farrell still looking for the right combinations heading towards the World Cup, this match may become a game in which we simply see how far behind the best team in the world Ireland currently are.
South Africa Form
Playing and winning two games having received early red cards is something that coach Rassie Erasmus will be incredibly proud of, with his South Africa side downing both France and Italy in consecutive matches.
However, he will be desperate to see the touring side keep all 15 players on the pitch as they take on Ireland this weekend. The Springboks are now back to full strength after rotating last weekend, and they look superb across the park. The bite in the scrum is back, there is pace on the flanks and there is power and flair in the middle. If South Africa catch Ireland napping, they will tear them apart.
The last four meetings between the pair have seen the winning margin stand between 1-12 points. Interestingly, Ireland have won four of their last five meetings between the sides. I predict that this is a stat that South Africa will look to rectify as they beat their opponents in a tight game this week.
Verdict
I am backing South Africa to win this one by between 1-12 points as they end Ireland's two-game winning run.
