Italy vs South Africa Preview & Tips


Italy roared to a stunning 26-19 win over Australia in their last game as they kicked off their November campaign with a big win. 

South Africa notched a hugely impressive 32-17 win over France in their last game as they secured the bragging rights despite going down to 14-men in the 38th minute.

South Africa have won nine of their last 10 against Italy, with the Italians winning once in this time.

Italy were excellent against Australia in their last Teat match outing as they secured a second win in their last four matches. 

While Australia are hardly the world-beating side they once were, they are still a major scalp, especially for a side like Italy. In their clash, they were able to juggle an expectant crown and a desperate Australian side that had been comfortably beaten by England the game before. 

While the match itself could have gone either way as the pair traded blows, Italy held their nerve, which is something they have been far better at doing in recent years. However, nothing prepares a side for a clash with the Springboks. Italy will be pushed to the max by a scrum that continually obliterated France's set-piece, while their backs will run Italy ragged as the touring side look to win big once again. 

Even if South Africa are to make big changes to their matchday squad, I foresee nothing other than a big Italian loss. 

South Africa Form 


South Africa eventually came through against the French in their match last week as they put their double World Cup winning qualities on full show. 

Losing a player in the 38th minute is usually the start of a downwards curve for most sides, especially against France. However, South Africa rallied and came from 14-13 down at half-time to take the second-half 19-3 and secure a 32-17 win. In truth, South Africa were able to use their superior fitness to their advantage as France lost all momentum in the final 20 minutes. 

This week, I expect to see South Africa make a number of changes, but I do not predict that this will see their winning run end. Instead, I predict that the Springboks will make it six successive wins as they make the most out of their embarrassment of riches. In truth, the South African second-string team would be more than a match for most international sides, and I back a much-changed side to storm to the win over a buoyant Italy. 

Verdict

I am backing South Africa to ease to another big win as they halt the momentum Italy had created from their win over the Aussies.
