Scotland vs France Preview & Tips

Scotland had their resolve put to the test in their last Six Nations game as they notched a 26-23 win over Wales in Cardiff.

France proved too good for Italy in their last outing as they eased to a 33-8 win over their spirited opponents.

  • Louis Bielle-Biarrey has scored four tries for France at the Six Nations in 2026
  • Scotland have lost their last three against France

Head To Head

France have won six of their last 10 against Scotland, with the Scottish winning the other four meetings.

Scotland Form

Scotland stuttered in their clash with Wales last time out as they went into the changing rooms 17-5 down at half-time. In a clash in which they were backed to easily beat the Welsh, a shock defeat was suddenly on the cards.

They did roar back to win the second-half 21-6, but against a slightly better opponent the 12-point margin might have proved terminal for the Scottish. Had it not been for some excellent game management in the second-half from Finn Russell along with an opportunistic kick-off that caught the Welsh out and saw Scotland score, Scotland may have arrived for their penultimate Six Nations game on the back of a second defeat in three.

While Scotland won their last home match in a 31-20 victory over England, they have been beaten in two of their last four at Murrayfield, losing to New Zealand and Argentina. When top quality opponents have travelled to play Scotland, the Scottish have had trouble hitting the heights that they know they can reach.

This will likely be a tighter match than France have seen so far, with Scotland desperate to prove they are in the conversation when it comes to winning the Six Nations. While I do not back the Scottish to win this one, I predict that home advantage will see this one end as a tight game, with the winning margin standing at just four points the last two times Scotland have hosted this clash.

France Form

France have been outstanding in the Six Nations so far, but they are yet to face a serious challenge on the pitch.

Against Ireland, France blew their opponents away as the Irish failed to get out of first gear in their opener. They then hammered Wales 54-12 before easing to a 33-8 win over Italy. With England struggling of late and potentially arriving for their clash on the back of three consecutive defeats, it simply means their game against Scotland may prove to be their toughest outing.

Louis Bielle-Biarrey continues to torment defences, and I back him to get the first try of the game in a fast start for France. However, I do not anticipate they will have it all their own way. Scotland have played some excellent rugby at times, and when they manufacture space outside, they are as good at opening up holes and scoring tries as any side in the competition.

France would likely relish a fast and open game, especially if their flyers can get their hands on the ball out wide. While I back the French to win this one, I do not think it will be hugely comfortable as they are given a thorough examination by a host that will likely come to play.

Verdict

I am backing France to win by 1-12 points as Louis Bielle-Biarrey scores the first try of the match.
