Crusaders vs Fijian Drua 


The Crusaders were left to watch on last week, with the squad left to wait in their attempts to notch a third consecutive win. Prior to their week off, the Crusaders had beaten the Highlanders and Moana Pasifika, with this helping them get over a tough 29-13 loss to the Blues. 

Despite already losing three of their six matches this season, the Crusaders are only four points short of the Reds in fourth. While the summit will be their aim, building a run of wins and steadily climbing the ladder will be key as they look to minimise the defeats they succumb to this season. 

For Fijian Drua, a pair of wins in six outings is a fairly good return so far, with the side sitting clear of the Force and Moana Pasifika at the foot of the ladder. However, their wins over the Hurricanes and Brumbies have made way for heavy defeats to the Reds and the Blues. 

Of the five matches the sides have played, the Crusaders have won three times, while they have won both meetings at home. With this in mind, I predict a comfortable win for the Crusaders as they continue to build after a shaky start. 

Chiefs vs Waratahs 


The Chiefs will have been frustrated with their start to the season after losing two of their opening six and winning the other four. While they sit three points clear of the Crusaders in sixth, the Chiefs are eight points short of the Hurricanes at the summit.

Defeats to the misfiring Crusaders at home was eventually followed by a 33-24 loss to the Brumbies. While this season is proving to be an incredibly unpredictable and exciting iteration of the competition, the Chiefs will know consistency is key if they are to battle for the top spots. 

The Waratahs can move above the Chiefs with a win this weekend in what would be a real statement from the side. Three wins have come alongside three defeats so far, although it is worth noting that their three defeats have come across their last four outings. 

A 30-28 win over the Brumbies in their last match was an excellent result, but they have struggled against the Chiefs in recent meetings. Indeed, the Waratahs have lost eight of their last nine against their opponents, and I predict another frustrating loss for the travelling side this weekend. 

Verdict

I am backing the home sides to storm to comfortable wins this weekend as the Crusaders and Chiefs take the points.
