The A-League Grand Final will be an all-Melbourne affair as Melbourne City battle Melbourne Victory in the most hotly-anticipated derby of the 2025 A-League season.

Melbourne City have been excellent this season, and they were only denied top spot on the ladder by an inspired run from Auckland FC. However, the ladder toppers were knocked out by their next opponents, meaning City are the top-rated side left in the competition.

I do not expect a game filled with goals, but I do back City to both score and concede. The last five meetings between the sides have resulted in both clubs scoring, while their last two meetings have ended in draws.
I predict a tense match in which the two sides go the distance and end up with an extra 30 minutes of football to play. However, with City as the better side statistically, I am backing them to secure the win in extra-time as they deny their arch-rivals.
Melbourne Victory Form
Melbourne Victory managed to overcome the league's top side in the semi-finals as they secured a stunning 2-1 aggregate win.
They did things the hard way as they lost their home leg 1-0, meaning they were really up against it in the second-leg. However, they rallied in superb style, securing a 2-0 win on the road to knock the ladder toppers out as they secured their place in the final.
Much like City, Victory have not been the best going forward, securing 44 goals in the regular season. They have also conceded 36 times, meaning I predict that their attack will have to account for the side conceding at least once. I do not predict that they will be overrun at the back, with a tight final to come.
While I predict that Victory will take this contest all the way, I foresee defeat in extra-time as they are left to watch their arch-rivals lift the trophy.
Verdict
I am backing both sides to score as the game ends in a draw after 90 minutes. I then expect Melbourne City to show their quality as they secure the trophy in extra-time.
