Adelaide United vs Auckland FC Preview & Tips
Adelaide United beat WS Wanderers 4-2 in their last A-League game as they extended their unbeaten run in the competition to six matches.
Auckland FC slipped to a shock 2-1 loss at the hands of Macarthur in their last league outing as their six-match unbeaten run was brought to an end.
- Two of the three previous meetings between the sides have ended in stalemates
- United have drawn three of their last four league matches (W1)
Head To Head
The pair have only met three times before, with Auckland FC winning once and two games ending as draws.
Adelaide United Form
Adelaide United have gone under the radar this season, with the side moving up to fourth on the ladder after winning 10 of their opening 22 matches.
While they trail top side Newcastle Jets by eight points, they are only four short of Auckland FC in second. A win in this one would see them move to within a point of the travelling side, while it would extend their unbeaten run to seven matches.
The main worry for United in this one is their propensity to draw. They have shared the points in three of their last four, while they held Auckland in both of their meetings last season. While a win would be invaluable this week, I predict they will secure a draw that underlines their ability to battle with the best.
Auckland FC Form
Auckland FC will have been incredibly frustrated to have entered the international break on the back of a 2-1 loss to a Macarthur side that had lost their four previous league matches.
This defeat saw their six-game unbeaten run brought to a grinding halt, with the Kiwi side unable to build on impressive wins over Sydney FC, Wellington Phoenix, Melbourne City and Newcastle Jets.
Their dropping of points against Macarthur was reminiscent of their 2-2 draw with Perth Glory earlier in March. With this chance to extend their winning run against struggling Glory, Auckland stuttered to a 2-2 draw at home in a game they were backed to easily win.
With Auckland hit and miss at times, I am backing the travelling side to make it two without a win in the league as they share the points with their hosts.
Verdict
I am backing the pair to share the points in this one as Auckland FC lose more ground on Newcastle Jets at the summit.
