Auckland FC vs Macarthur Preview & Tips
Auckland FC were able to secure one of the defining results of the season so far as they beat the Newcastle Jets to move to within a point of their opponents.
Macarthur have been struggling for form and points of late, with their 4-1 loss to Melbourne Victory meaning they are now two points short of Central Coast Mariners in sixth.
- Auckland are unbeaten in their last six in the league (W4, D2)
- All of the previous meetings between the sides have seen less than 3.5 goals scored
Head To Head
The pair have met three times before, with Auckland winning twice and one game ending as a draw.
Auckland FC Form
Auckland FC knew they could not afford to lose to Newcastle Jets in their top of the ladder clash at the weekend, with this seeing the Kiwi outfit slipping seven points short of the top.
In a real show of their quality, Auckland travelled to take on the Jets and returned home with all three points in a 2-1 win. Snapping Newcastle’s unbeaten run was one thing, but ensuring the gap was not stretched to seven points was vital.
Now, Auckland FC have to backup their win by defeating a Macarthur outfit that have been horribly out of form. I predict a low-scoring game in this one, with the pair seeing three goals or less scored in each of their last three meetings.
With Auckland looking to extend their six-game unbeaten run whilst potentially moving above the Jets at the summit, I am backing the home side to secure another win.
Macarthur Form
While Macarthur are still very much in the running for a top six spot in the A-League this season, their woeful run of form, which has seen them go without a win in their last six, means they are in desperate need of a statement result.
Beating Auckland on the road would be about as big a statement as any side can make, but the difference in form between the pair is such that it is tough to see Macarthur getting anything from this one.
Defeats in their last four matches along with four defeats in 10 away games means I am backing against Macarthur in this one. While I predict a low-scoring game, I do not see them coming away with the points.
Verdict
I am backing under 3.5 goals for the fourth consecutive meeting between the sides as Auckland extend their unbeaten run.
