Brisbane Roar may arrive for their latest game against Auckland FC on the back of two defeats, but this should not take away from what has been an excellent start to the season.
Five victories have come alongside three draws and four defeats, with their total of 18 points meaning they are just three short of the leaders. Victory in this one could send them to the summit and underline what has been a strong start.
The worry for the Roar in this one will be that they have lost their last two against Wellington Phoenix and Melbourne City. Indeed, their loss to a Wellington Phoenix side that face Adelaide United this week, saw the Roar hammered by the inferior New Zealand based side. This, coupled with a failure to beat Auckland FC across their four meetings is worrying.
I am therefore backing the home side to roll their sleeves up and grind their way to a draw as they make it three consecutive stalemates against their opponents.

Auckland FC have been excellent at the start of the new season, picking up six wins from their opening 11 and moving to the top of the ladder.
2026 has not been kind to the leaders so far, with Auckland FC losing 3-1 to Newcastle Jets at home before being held by Macarthur in a 1-1 draw. While they still boast a two-point lead at the summit, defeat this week could see them slid down the ladder.
While the need to return to winning ways is clear, I back Auckland FC to stutter once again. They have drawn with the Roar in their last two meetings, while their last away game ended in a draw with Macarthur.
