Crystal Palace vs Liverpool Preview & Tips

Crystal Palace are looking to extend an impressive run of five games without a loss at the start of the new Premier League season.

Liverpool are also yet to lose although, unlike Palace, all five of their league games have ended in wins.

  • Palace have drawn both of their home matches this season
  • Liverpool have scored winning goals in the 80th+ minute of four of their five league games
  • Alexander Isak scored against Southampton in midweek

Head To Head

In their last 10 meetings, Liverpool have won five times with Palace winning once. The other four games have ended as draws including in their last two meetings.

Crystal Palace Form

Alongside Liverpool, Crystal Palace are the only other side that is yet to taste defeat in the Premier League after their opening five games.

However, it is worth noting that they have only won twice, drawing the other three. At home, they have drawn two games, with a 1-1 draw against Nottingham Forest followed by a 0-0 draw with Sunderland. While they are not losing games, those were two matches that Palace would have fancied winning at home. Does this show a lack of bite in the home side?

While I back Palace to keep Liverpool honest in this one, I do not see them winning. They beat Liverpool on penalties in their last meeting, but this came after the teams shared a 2-2 draw in normal time. This was their second consecutive draw, and I back them to trundle to a third successive stalemate.

Liverpool Form

Liverpool may be perfect across the new season, but they have hardly been comfortable in their opening seven in all competitions.

Five wins in the league have seen four matches won in the 80th+ minute. In the Champions League, the Reds needed a pinpoint header in the 92nd minute from Virgil van Dijk to win their game against Atletico Madrid 3-2, while Hugo Ekitike scored an 85th minute winner against Southampton in midweek in the League Cup.

While the Reds have been perfect so far, they come up against a Palace side that have been excellent at the back, but have struggled for consistent goals. With the exception of their 3-0 win over Aston Villa, they have failed to score more than once in three of their four league games.

I back the Reds to drop points for the first time this season despite Alexander Isak making it two goals in two games for his new club. This will come with Palace showing their impressive defensive fortitude.

Verdict

I am backing the sides to share the points as Alexander Isak bags his first league goal for Liverpool.
