A win in their opening match of the new Champions League season is crucial to their hopes of triumphing in Europe this year. While they have been handed a tough opener, the Reds will be fully aware of Atleti’s poor start to the season in La Liga.
Liverpool’s own issues at the back have seen the Reds keep two clean sheets in their four league games and the Community Shield, but they have been good in front of goal, scoring 11 times in five games. I back them to breach Atleti’s defence, but I do not back them to keep a clean sheet.
Atletico Madrid From
Atletico Madrid have not been great at the start of the new season, with the usually so miserly side keeping a single clean sheet in their opening four.
While Atleti do boast forwards that can score goals, they have often struggled to account for the goals they have conceded. If Liverpool get up ahead of steam, it will be a very long night for the travelling side. This will be doubly true if Alexander Isak, who will hope to impress on his European debut for Liverpool, is able to hit the ground running.
I back Atletico to breach a Liverpool defence that has been far from perfect this year, but I do not back them to outscore an opponent that has been threatening to run riot in each of their matches this season.

I am backing Liverpool to win in an entertaining clash between the sides as the Reds take advantage of Atleti’s poor start to the new season.
