Melbourne Victory are looking to build on an excellent run to the A-League grand final last season, with the side unable to secure the trophy as they were beaten 1-0 in the final by Melbourne City.
Auckland FC can secure revenge in their opening game after they were knocked out of their semi-final with Victory last season.

The two sides have met four times, with Auckland FC winning twice, Melbourne winning once and one game ending as a draw.
Melbourne Victory Form
Melbourne Victory were solid across their A-League regular season last term, finishing in fifth with 43 points. While they were 10 short of Auckland FC at the summit, they finished six clear of Sydney FC in seventh.
They then caught fire in the finals series, beating Western Sydney Wanderers 2-1 in the elimination finals before beating Auckland FC 2-1 on aggregate in the semi-finals. While they were beaten 1-0 by Melbourne City in the grand final, they should be immensely proud of their season.
However, the worry for Melbourne will be that they have not been great against Auckland, especially at home. Both home games have ended in defeats. Despite arriving for this one having won their last four in all competitions, I back their league season to get off to a losing start.
Auckland FC Form
Auckland FC were the pick of many to go all the way in the finals series last term, with their 2-1 elimination at the hands of Melbourne Victory in the semi-finals a major shock.
In the regular season, Auckland FC were excellent. 15 wins came alongside eight draws and three defeats. They will be desperate to bring this same kind of form into the new season, and this has to start with a win over Melbourne Victory that will help to dispel their elimination in the semi-finals at the hands of their opponents last season.
While I back a game of few goals, I predict that Auckland FC will get off to a strong start as they beat Melbourne Victory for the third consecutive away game.

I am backing less than 2.5 goals in this one as Auckland FC take maximum points from their hosts.
