Newcastle vs Arsenal Preview & Tips
Newcastle were held by Bournemouth in a drab 0-0 draw in their last league game as their inconsistent start to the season was extended.
Arsenal battled back for a point against Manchester City in their last game as they came from a goal down to secure a 1-1 draw.
- Newcastle have lost two of their four home games in all competitions (W2)
- Arsenal have won their last two against the Magpies
Head To Head
Arsenal have won four of their last 10 against Newcastle, with the Magpies winning five and one game ending as a draw.
Newcastle Form
Newcastle have struggled for wins this season, with the Magpies currently languishing in 13th with a single win from their opening five.
Goals have been a real issue for Newcastle, with the side scoring just three times across their opening five. More worrying still is the fact that two of their three league goals came in their 3-2 home loss to Liverpool. While the Magpies have kept four clean sheets in five games, their forward line continues to let them down.
Arsenal arrive having scored 10 league goals and conceding twice. Clearly, the Gunners bring an incisive attack and a solid defence. Newcastle will have to find a way to breach Arsenal's defence if they are to get anything from this one, but I do not see them ending their awful start to the season in front of goal.
Arsenal Form
Despite struggling to break Manchester City down in their last league game, Arsenal arrive as one of the best attacking teams in the competition. 10 goals is the second-most goals behind only Liverpool (11 goals).
Two goals conceded is also very impressive, with the Gunners boasting the best defence in the league alongside Crystal Palace. With goals coming freely and clean sheets coming in three of their five outings, the Gunners have impressed.
With Liverpool taking on a stubborn Crystal Palace at the weekend, Arsenal have a big chance to cut the gap at the top, and I back them to do so as they beat Newcastle at St James' Park.
Verdict
I am backing Arsenal to take all three points as they end Newcastle's three game unbeaten run in the league.
