Marseille have it all to do in their Champions League opener as they head to face the most decorated team in the history of the competition.

Real Madrid were well below their lofty standards in Europe last season as their stuttering campaign was ended in an embarrassing 5-1 aggregate loss to Arsenal that saw them lose in both legs.
Beginning their campaign with a win is vital for new coach Xabi Alonso. The difference between Real Madrid and many other clubs will be that they expect great things from their new manager immediately. Alonso will know that he has little time to get it right, with their Champions League campaign a big barometer of success for the side.
While Marseille will not be an easy side to break down as they look to frustrate Real, the home side should have more than enough to beat their opponents. Kylian Mbappe has been in good form across the international break, netting in both of his matches for France, and I back him to continue his strong start to the season with another goal following his effort against Real Sociedad at the weekend.

Marseille will have to end a run of four consecutive defeats to Real Madrid if they are to begin their Champions League campaign in a positive way.
However, recent results do not suggest they will be able to take any points from Real. Their last two away games have ended in 1-0 defeats to Rennes and Lyon, with their inability to score on the road ultimately costing them.
With all of the firepower Real have, it is vital that Marseille find a way to score. However, their goal-shy nature on the road to this point suggests that they will find it very difficult to break their hosts down.
Verdict
I am backing Real to win their opening match of the European season as Mbappe opens his account at the first time of asking.
