Melbourne City were humbled in a crushing 6-2 defeat at the hands of Macarthur in their last match meaning they need a big performance as they look to bounce back.

Wellington Phoenix had been climbing up the ladder after picking up seven points from a possible nine at the start of the new year.
However, a chastening 4-1 loss at the hands of Newcastle Jets in their last outing has seen this stunning start to 2026 dampened. Phoenix are still only three points short of Brisbane Roar in sixth, meaning a win may see them move into the top six.

With all of this in mind, I am backing Phoenix to slip to a frustrating defeat as they fail to score.

Melbourne City were humiliated in their last outing as they conceded six times to a Macarthur side that had only scored 15 goals in their previous 14 matches.
Their usually solid defence was found out time and time again as they conceded as many in their last outing as they had in their previous six. Clearly, defensive solidity is needed this week, and I predict that this will likely see a low-scoring match as City look to set up to be tough to breakdown.
The last three meetings between the sides have seen City win to nil, with their last meeting ending in a 1-0 away with for Melbourne. With the pair looking to ensure they do not concede as often as they did last week, I predict a tight game that City secure the win in.

I am backing City to secure a crucial win as they keep a clean sheet for the fourth consecutive time against Phoenix.
