Ajla Tomljanovic vs Coco Gauff Preview & Tips
Ajla Tomljanovic has struggled to get going at a number of recent tournaments, with a second round defeat in Monterrey her latest failure.

- Head To Head
- Ajla Tomljanovic Form
- Coco Gauff Form
Coco Gauff is looking to build on a solid run to the quarter-finals in Cincinnati, with the US Open a Slam many fancy her to go deep at.
Head To Head
The pair have met once before, with Coco Gauff securing a 2-0 win at the Paris Olympics in 2024.
Ajla Tomljanovic Form
Ajla Tomljanovic's exploits heading into the US Open will be a major worry to the player, with a string of tough results seeing her hopes of vying for silverware ended early on.
A comfortable 6-4 6-4 loss to Ekaterina Alexandrova in Monterrey mere days ago following a second round exit in Cincinnati along with first round defeats in Montreal, London and Bad Homburg. While Tomljanovic boasts a positive record on hard courts (200 wins/165 defeats), she has struggled this year, losing 10 of her 18 outings.
Coco Gauff will bring the fire as she looks to improve on her own impressive 147-65 win/loss record, and I predict that she will fall at the first hurdle this week, with a second consecutive 2-0 loss to Gauff in the offing.
Coco Gauff Form
Coco Gauff is looking to improve upon a very inconsistent record at Slams in 2025. Her stunning French Open triumph at the second Slam of the season was preceded by a solid run to the quarter-finals of the Australian Open, while she slipped to a first round exit at Wimbledon across the British summer.
Heading into the US Open, there were positives for Gauff as she won in the second and fourth round in straight sets. A walkover in the third round was then followed by a 2-1 loss to Jasmine Paolini. While Gauff did have her moments in the match, she was not able to get the edge against Paolini.
Gauff's inconsistencies at major events will be a worry heading into the next rounds. I back her to beat Tomljanovic comfortably in the opening round, but this is because the gap between the pair is vast.
Verdict
I am backing Gauff to hit the ground running at the US Open as she easily beats Tomljanovic 2-0.
