Kamilla Rakhimova eventually came through her opening clash with Caroline Garcia in a battling win over her opponent.

The pair are yet to meet in a competitive match, with their clash in the second round at the US Open the first time the pair have come together.

Daria Kasatkina took just 78 minutes to win her opening US Open match in a superb show of strength as she bounced back from two consecutive defeats heading into the competition.
A pair of defeats to Marta Kostyuk in Montreal and Lucia Bronzetti in Cincinnati saw Kasatkina arrive with no momentum. This made her 7-5 6-1 win even more impressive as she got the ball rolling at the first time of asking in a win that barely saw her break a sweat in the second set.
Having returned a disappointing 18 wins and 19 defeats in 2025, Kasatkina knows she is up against it at the final Slam of the year. However, she is already well on her way to bettering her showings at the other Slams (3rd round at Wimbledon and fourth round in Australia and France) this year.
While it is incredibly unlikely that she will lift the final Grand Slam of the year, I do back her to go well at the US Open as she eases past Rakhimova in three sets.
Kamilla Rakhimova Form
Kamilla Rakhimova had to settle from a mid match wobble as she eliminated Caroline Garcia in a 6-4 4-6 6-3 win. While she was solid in the first and third sets, she looked very suspect in the second set.
Rakhimova currently has parity across her 50 matches in 2025, winning 25 times and losing 25 times. However, over half of her 25 defeats have come on hard courts, with a total of 13 eliminations coming on this surface.
With a best showing in 2025 Grand Slams seeing Rakhimova eliminated in the third round, I worry for her heading into this one. A pair of first rounds exits in Australia and France means the pressure has generally gotten to her early. I do back the 23-year-old to win a set in this one as she pushes her opponent, but I do not back her to win this one.
Verdict
I am backing Kasatkina to secure the bragging rights in this one as she moves into the third round of the US Open following a 2-1 win.
