Jannik Sinner vs Alexei Popyrin Preview & Tips
Jannik Sinner is eyeing yet another statement win at the US Open after dropping just four games in the opening round.

- Jannik Sinner Form
- Alexei Popyrin Form
Alexei Popyrin enjoyed a good workout in the first round as he managed to battle past Emil Ruusuvuori.
Head To Head
The two have met once, with Popyrin wining 7-6 6-2 in Madrid back in 2021.
Jannik Sinner Form
Jannik Sinner was in no mood to hang around in the first round as he flew to a 6-1 6-1 6-2 win over Vit Kopriva to underline his place as the favourite to win the tournament this year.
This would have been a real lift for Sinner after he was forced to retire in the final of the Cincinnati Open 5-0 down against Carlos Alcaraz. While Sinner arrives as the favourite to lift the trophy, pulling up injured less than two weeks ago would have been a worry heading into his opening match.
While Sinner cannot call upon a stellar record against Popyrin, he has only played his opponent once, and this came four years ago. With his supreme run at Wimbledon back in July coupled with his drive to win another Grand Slam, I see little other than a comfortable win for Sinner in this one.
Alexei Popyrin Form
Alexei Popyrin will relish the chance to take on Jannik Sinner in the second round, with the 26-year-old hoping to announce himself at the tournament with the biggest possible win.
Popyrin looked in good touch in the opening round, but he has found consistent wins tough to come by this season. Indeed, of his 36 outings, Popyrin has only managed to secure 17 wins, while he has lost nine of his 16 on hard courts.
While Popyrin is a good player in his own right, he is taking on an opponent that is arguably better than anyone right now. Unfortunately for Popyrin, I predict his US Open run will end with a whimper.
Verdict
I am backing Sinner to steamroll Popyrin as he secures a second consecutive 3-0 win.
