Suzan Lamens vs Iga Swiatek Preview & Tips - Swiatek backed to ease into US Open third round

Iga Swiatek hammered Emiliana Arango 6-1 6-2 in a statement win in her opening appearance at the 2025 US Open. 

This will be the first time the two players have met in a competitive match. 

Suzan Lamens has seen a fairly good year turn somewhat of late, with three consecutive defeats preceding her opening win at the US Open this year. 

23 victories have come alongside 21 defeats, although she at least boasts a positive winning run after securing 11 victories in 21 hard court matches this season. While Lamens currently has that positive record on hard courts this year, this will really be put to the test in the second round. 

Lamens has not ever played Swiatek, and I predict that this will be a real lesson in tennis for the 26-year-old. Swiatek is the form player in women's tennis right now, and she will likely need little reason to go after Lamens on the court. 

Iga Swiatek has been outstanding of late, winning her last seven matches, with this run including lifting the trophy in Cincinnati earlier in the month. 

Swiatek needed just 60 minutes to win her first round match against Emiliana Arango as she dropped just three games across the two sets. The task for Lamens seems to grow with each stat about Swiatek. 50 wins have come from 62 outings this season, with 29 of these victories coming on hard courts. She also boasts a superb record on hard courts across her career, winning 191 matches and losing just 49 times. 

With Swiatek's record on hard courts in mind, I see little other than a 2-0 win for the favourite as she moves into the third round.
