Australia vs Netherlands Women T20 World Cup Preview & Tips
Australia Women hammered Bangladesh by nine wickets in their last World Cup outing as they continued their perfect run at the competition.
Netherlands Women slumped to a chastening 95-run loss to India in their last game as their losing run was extended to six matches.
- Australia have won their last seven matches in the T20 game
- Ellyse Perry has scored 36 and 19 not out at the competition for Australia
Head To Head
This will be the first time the pair have met in a competitive T20 match.
Australia Women Form
Australia Women stormed to a big nine-wicket win over Bangladesh in their last outing as they restricted their opponents to 77/8 before easing to 78/1.
Georgia Voll impressed with 45 not out from 32 as she played a fluent hand that involved six boundaries and one maximum. Australia will have to take on better opponents across the tournament, but consistently scoring against all opponents is crucial, and having openers that will put the opposition under pressure is something the Aussies will feel they have.
With two wins from their opening two matches, the Aussies sit level at the top of Group A with India. Having already taken points from South Africa and Bangladesh, the Aussies will know that wins over the Netherlands and Pakistan would likely put them in the knockout stages prior to their match against India.
With this in mind, I am backing the Aussies to easily beat the Netherlands as Ellyse Perry goes well with the bat.
Netherlands Women Form
The Netherlands Women could not get anywhere near India in their last match as they saw their batters and bowlers completely outplayed.
Smriti Mandhana continued to showcase her run scoring ability as she notched 74 from 47 as she led her side to 209/5. India's score always looked well beyond the remit of Netherlands' batters, and so it proved as they were bowled out for 114.
Across their last 10, the Netherlands have lost nine times, only beat Bangladesh once. Their issues in the shortest format will more than likely get extended in this one as the Netherlands slide to a third successive World Cup defeat.
Verdict
I am backing Australia to make it three successive wins at the World Cup as Ellyse Perry puts Netherlands' bowling attack under real pressure.
