Bangladesh vs New Zealand 3rd ODI Preview & Tips

Bangladesh were outstanding with bat and ball in the second ODI against New Zealand as they skittled their opponents for 198 before storming to a six-wicket win.

New Zealand's hopes of securing an ODI series win over Bangladesh with one game to spare were undone by an insipid batting performance as they were restricted to 198 in 48.4 overs.

  • The Black Caps have won three of their last four 50 over matches against their opponents (L1)

Head To Head

In their last 10 ODI meetings, New Zealand have won six times against Bangladesh with the latter winning the other four.

Bangladesh Form

Bangladesh needed to bounce back in the second ODI against New Zealand and that is exactly what they did as they put on a clinic of how to bat and bowl in testing conditions.

This was particularly impressive after failing to bowl New Zealand out in the first ODI before then being restricted to 221 all out in 48.3 overs in a 26-run loss in the first ODI. In the second ODI, Bangladesh were indebted to brilliant performances from Nahid Rana (5/32) and Tanzid Hasan (76 from 58) as the pair led the home side to victory.

The main worry for the hosts in this one will be that while they played well, New Zealand were particularly bad as only Nick Kelly (83) could score more than 20 runs. While I predict a close match in the final meeting, I back New Zealand to show their quality as they bounce back.

New Zealand Form

New Zealand will be cursing a dismal batting display in the second ODI as their hopes of securing a fourth consecutive ODI win over Bangladesh were dashed.

After a sluggish start that saw the Black Caps score 25 runs in seven overs, the wickets began to tumble. New Zealand went from 25 without loss to 52/3, while they seemed to be rebuilding at 145/4 only to collapse to 198 all out. Nick Kelly starred though, notching an impressive score of 83 as he almost outscored his 10 teammates.

In the third and final ODI, New Zealand need a big performance to ensure they do not lose another series. They will look to take the lessons from the second ODI, with the way their play Nahid Rana's pace particularly important. If the Black Caps can build a solid score and keep wickets in hand for later in their innings then I back them to secure the series win in impressive style.

Verdict

I am backing New Zealand to hand their hosts a 2-1 ODI series defeat as they prepare for their Twenty20 series with a victory.
