Storm vs Roosters

Melbourne Storm are hoping to work their way up the ladder after winning just four of their opening 12 matches. Their tally of eight points means they are just six clear of the Dragons at the foot of the ladder. Their position on the ladder is made all the more frustrating by a recent pair of wins coming over Wests Tigers and Eels being quickly followed by a 30-20 loss to the Bulldogs that keeps the Storm on the back foot.

The Roosters arrive for their latest match on the back of a stunning 18-12 loss to the Cowboys. This defeat put an end to a six-game winning run that featured triumphs over the Sea Eagles, Sharks, Knights, Dragons, Broncos and Titans. Despite their loss, the Roosters still find themselves sitting in third on the ladder with 18 points, four short of the Panthers. With the top two meeting this weekend, the Roosters could find themselves as high as second by the end of the round.

With the Roosters looking to take advantage of the Storm's defence leaking 314 points in 12 matches, I back the travelling side to secure a crucial win. The Roosters boast three wins in four away games this season and a 40-10 win over their opponents in their last meeting. With this in mind, I predict that the Storm will slump to a frustrating loss.

Panthers vs Warriors

Penrith Panthers had to sit out the last round of the NRL as they watched those below them fighting for points. From the Panthers point of view, this is yet another chance to build on their lead at the summit. Currently boasting 22 points, the Panthers are two clear of the Warriors in second and four ahead of the Roosters in third. Victory against the Warriors would be their sixth consecutive triumph, while it would see them move four points clear. Impressively, the Panthers are the only team that are perfect at home, winning all of their five matches, scoring 170 points and conceding just 58.

The New Zealand Warriors arrive for their 12th match of the season knowing this is a major chance to reel the Panthers in. The two point gap between the pair is minimal, but if they lose then they will slip four points short of the summit. Victory brings the two level at the top but it will not be easy despite arriving with four wins in their five away games.

On the road against the Panthers, the Warriors have struggled. They have lost their last three, while they have been beaten in nine of their last 10 when travelling. I predict a close game between the top two sides in the competition, but I do not see the Warriors shocking the ladder toppers.

Verdict

I am backing the Roosters to get back to winning ways as they beat the floundering Storm while the Panthers defeat the Warriors in a pulsating meeting.
