Titans vs Panthers
The Titans arrive for their 14th match of the season searching for just a fourth win after losing 10 of their opening 13 games. With 10 points in the bank, the Titans are well short of their next opponents at the summit with 26 points. Across their last three at home they have lost by 14 points or more to the Broncos, Raiders and Knights, while they have lost six of their last seven at the competition. Worrying for the Titans will be their awful run against the Panthers, with this seeing them lose their last seven against the top side in the competition.
The Panthers may have had to sit the 15th round of the NRL season out, but they will have been pleased to have seen closest rivals the Warriors slump to a shock 10-8 home loss to the Sharks. This keeps the Panthers six clear at the summit with both sides having played 13 matches. While the places below the Panthers are hotly contested, the leaders are pulling clear of the chasing pack.
After 13 games, the Panthers have won 12 times, while they have won their last four on the road. With 247 points scored and 88 conceded on the road, the Panthers have not only been very tough to beat, they have been difficult to score any points against. With the Panthers looking to make it eight consecutive wins over their opponents, I am backing a big win for the travelling side.
Warriors vs Cowboys
New Zealand Warriors wasted a huge chance to move to within four points of the Panthers at the summit last week as they slipped to a stunning 10-8 loss to a Sharks side that edged to within four points of the current runners-up. Nine wins in 13 matches is a solid tally, while they have three wins in their last four at home. The major worry for them will be that while they score points on their own patch (194), they also concede them (116). This is not to say that the Warriors have been hugely leaky defensively, but they have seen the winning margin stand at between 1-12 points in three of their last four on their own patch.
The Cowboys arrive for this one aiming to end a two-game losing run that has seen them beaten by the Raiders (26-12) and the Dolphins (40-14). Currently sat in ninth on the ladder, the Cowboys are only four points behind the Warriors in second, with this showing just how tight things are at the summit. Positive for the Cowboys is the fact they have won four of their seven on the road, with all of these wins coming across their last five. Their record on the road is solid, but is it enough to beat an opponent that they have lost their last four matches against?
Verdict
I am backing the Panthers to continue to impress in the NRL as the Warriors bounce back with a battling win.
