Eels vs Panthers
The Parramatta Eels currently languish in 15th on the ladder after a tough season so far. Six wins from their opening 17 is hardly the tally they would have hoped for, with the 18 points they have picked up enough to see them eight clear of the Dragons at the bottom by 14 short of their next opponents at the top. While the Eels do boast two wins in their last three at home, they have lost seven of their last 10 in the competition. This, coupled with defeats in their last 10 against the Panthers, means I see nothing other than a 12th defeat of the season coming for the Eels.
The Penrith Panthers are in need of a big win and a solid performance after winning just one of their last four. Defeats to the Titans, Cowboys and Broncos have come alongside a single win over the Rabbitohs. Their poor run has seen their lead at the top cut to just two points. With the New Zealand Warriors breathing down their necks, now is the perfect time to secure a win over a side they have dominated. While they have lost their last two away from home, the Panthers still boast the best away record in the league, and I back them to secure a seventh win in 10 away from home.
Bulldogs vs Warriors
The Canterbury Bulldogs have may sit in 10th on the NRL ladder, but with 22 points from their opening 17 matches, they are just eight behind their next opponents in second. While they were soundly beaten by the Raiders earlier in the month, they bounced back in fine style with a 32-0 win over Wests Tigers. This win was their fourth across their last five NRL matches, with the Bulldogs looking strong right now. Against the Warriors, the Bulldogs have been good, but the difference in form between the pair is stark. While the Bulldogs have won their last three against their opponents, I do not back them to down a team in fine form.
The New Zealand Warriors made the most out of the Panthers losing last week as they edged to a 20-12 win over St George Illawarra. This win saw them notch consecutive NRL victories, while they have won seven of their last 10. With the Panthers in questionable form right now, the Warriors will scent the chance to move to the summit, and I back them to add to their five wins in eight away games as they ease past their hosts.
Verdict
I am backing the Panthers to breeze past the Eels as the Warriors also secure an important win.
