Titans vs Warriors
The Titans arrive for their clash with the Warriors on the back of consecutive wins in the NRL. A 38-32 triumph over the Sea Eagles was quickly followed by a comfortable 38-18 win over St George Illawarra. These victories have seen the Titans climb up to 13th on the ladder with 18 points, eight clear of the Dragons at the bottom. Worrying will be their poor record at home. Three wins in seven matches in front of their own fans is a very poor return, while they have lost their last two against the Warriors.
The New Zealand Warriors arrive for their latest match looking to bounce back from a hugely disappointing 18-6 loss to the Bulldogs in their last outing. This loss saw a run of wins over Wests Tigers and St George Illawarra brought to an end, with this ensuring the Warriors slipped further behind the Panthers at the summit. While the Warriors have won five times on the road this season, they have also lost four times. Their away trips have tended to be a bit hit and miss. Three wins in their last six against the Titans shows this one has tended to be a fairly even contest, and while I back the Warriors to secure a sixth win in 10 away games this year, I do not predict that it will be easy.
Panthers vs Raiders
The Penrith Panthers have swayed between looking nearly unbeatable and entirely beatable this season, with the side returning 14 wins and four defeats this term. While they looked very good defensively at the start of the NRL season, they have struggled of late, losing to the Titans (19-18), Cowboys (26-12) and Broncos (14-12) across their last five outings. To their credit, they were able to secure a battling 24-18 win over the Eels in their last game as they avoided a potential shock upset. While the Panthers have not shaken off their inconsistencies of late, they should be far too strong for the Raiders at home, and I fully expect them to comfortably secure an eighth win in nine home matches this season.
The Raiders have been excellent of late, and they will be very confident that they can ruffle the feathers of their hosts this week. A run of four consecutive wins has seen the Raiders move up to 11th on the ladder, with the 22 points they have collected enough to keep them in contention for a top eight spot. While their 56-10 win over Wests Tigers came against the side currently sat in 16th on the ladder, the Raiders still needed to be at their best to swell their points difference and secure a morale-boosting win.
While the Raiders arrive in the better form, they have struggled against their opponents. Indeed, across their last 10 meetings, the Panthers have secured six victories, with the Raiders winning the other four. While the Raiders are aiming to make it five successive wins in the NRL, I am backing against them beating the best side in the competition.
Verdict
I am backing the Warriors to edge past the Titans as the Panthers beat the Raiders comfortably.
