Super Rugby 2026 Round 4 Best Bets
The fourth round of the Super Rugby season is here, with the competition already throwing up a range of big results. This week, the pick of the action sees the Blues hosting an out-of-sorts Crusaders before the Reds travel to face ladder-toppers the Brumbies.
Blues vs Crusaders
The Blues have started the new season in frustrating style, with a single win over the Force sandwiched by defeats to the Chiefs and the Brumbies. Despite only winning one of their opening three, the Blues still find themselves sitting in fifth with six points, two points and places clear of their next opponents.
At home, the Blues have been strong, winning four of their last five across competitions. However, prior to their run of four wins, they had lost three consecutive matches on their own patch. Meanwhile, they have lost nine of their last 10 home games against the Crusaders including a stunning 42-19 defeat in 2025.
The Crusaders arrive for their fourth game of the season hoping to build on a win over the Chiefs last time out. Their 43-33 victory was a welcomed return to winning ways after defeats at the hands of the Highlanders (25-23) and the Brumbies (50-24). While the season is still young, the Crusaders will not want to allow the top sides to get too far ahead of them.
On the road, the Crusaders have managed to win seven of their last eight across competitions, while they have a superb record against the Blues away from home. With the pair losing two of their opening three, a win this week is vital, and I back the Crusaders to take the points in a battling triumph.
Brumbies vs Reds
The Brumbies come into their clash with the Reds on the back of three consecutive wins after they were able to edge to a 30-27 win over the Blues in their last outing. This followed wins over the Force (56-24) and the Crusaders (50-24), with the ladder-toppers scoring 50 points or more in both of their away games.
At home, the Brumbies have a patchy record, losing two of their last three across competitions. However, they have been perfect so far this season and they will fancy their chances of winning for a fourth successive time when hosting the Reds.
The Reds currently sit in sixth on the ladder after winning one of their opening two matches. Hamstrung by the bye week in match week two, the Reds are looking to bridge a gap between themselves and the leaders that now stands at nine points. While the season is still young, if they are to fall further behind this weekend, then the gap will start to look insurmountable.
Worrying for the Reds will be that they have lost four of their last five on the road in all competitions. They have also been beaten on nine of their 10 visits to face the Brumbies and I predict another tough weekend for the travelling side as they slip to a second defeat in three games.
Verdict
I am backing the Crusaders to make it consecutive wins in Super Rugby 2026 as the Brumbies extend their perfect run in the competition this season.
