Auckland FC vs Adelaide United Preview & Tips

Auckland FC host Adelaide United in the first leg of their A-League semi-final on May 15 with both sides entering the match with their eyes firmly set on the grand final.

Head To Head

The pair have met four times before, with three matches ending as draws and Auckland FC winning the other meeting.

Auckland FC Form

Auckland finished the regular season fairly strongly as they took home advantage in the Elimination final which saw them eventually edge past Melbourne City on penalties.

Recent league form suggests Auckland are difficult to beat yet vulnerable defensively. They have drawn three of their last five matches, including a 1-1 draw away at Adelaide in April, while also conceding twice against Melbourne Victory and Sydney FC. Without a clean sheet across their last eight, the Kiwi side have been picked apart consistently.

Despite their woes at the back, Auckland FC still look strong going forward. They have managed to hit the back of the net in 25 of their last 26 matches, and I back them to utilise their forwards to get at United's backline.

Adelaide United Form

Adelaide United also enter the semi-final with a run of draws dominating their recent results. The Reds have shared the points in five of their last eight league matches, although they did record an impressive 2-1 away win against Melbourne City in their last away outing.

Their inability to close out games remains a concern from a betting perspective, especially after failing to find that winning goal in five of their last eight. While they are tough to beat, winning consistently has not been their greatest strength.

Goals have been a consistent feature in this fixture, averaging more than 2.5 per game across three of the previous four meetings.

That trend makes goals markets particularly attractive again here. Both teams have scored in each of their four previous meetings and neither defence has looked fully convincing during the closing weeks of the regular season.

Verdict

I am backing Auckland FC to squeeze to a win in their first meeting as the trend of both sides scoring and failing to keep clean sheets continues.
