Australia vs Türkiye Preview & Tips
Australia begin their World Cup campaign with a tough test against a Türkiye side that will have aspirations of topping Group D.
Türkiye edged to a 2-1 win over Venezuela in their last game as they extended their winning run to four matches.

Head To Head
The pair have met twice before, with Australia losing both meetings back in 2004.
Australia Form
Australia were hoping to build on a pair of wins back in March as they downed Cameroon 1-0 before then hammering Curacao 5-1.
However, their 1-0 loss to Mexico was quickly followed by a 1-1 draw with Switzerland heading into the competition. While a 1-0 loss to a solid Mexico side that are co-hosts for the tournament coupled with a draw against a capable Swiss side are hardly bad results, arriving for the competition on a two-game winless run is a problem.
The Aussies were edged out in a one-goal defeat, while they failed to capitalise on drawing level in their clash with the Swiss. A lack of a killer edge in front of goal will likely come back to bite the Aussies, and I predict they will start their campaign with a defeat.
Türkiye Form
Türkiye arrive as one of the favourites to win Group D with the USA their most likely competitor for top spot. Ahead of the likes of Paraguay and Australia in the betting, the nation will be desperate to make the most out of playing the supposed underdogs in the group first.
Across the last nine months, Türkiye have won seven of their eight outings, whilst drawing once with Spain. In their last four, Türkiye have beaten Romania, Kosovo, North Macedonia and Venezuela. While the quality of opponent in that last cluster of games has not been particularly high, they have still secured wins in each outing.
Their previous two matches against Australia ended in a 3-1 win and a 1-0 win. While these matches took place 22 years ago, Türkiye will be keen to ensure that they make it three consecutive wins against their opponents, and I back them to do just that.
Verdict
I am backing Türkiye to take all three points from Australia as the former begin their World Cup campaign with a crucial win.
