France vs Spain Preview & Tips

France have been brilliant across the 2026 World Cup, with the nation on course to make up for their World Cup final defeat back in 2022.

Spain eventually beat Belgium in the World Cup quarter-finals as the reigning European champions kept their hopes of adding the 2026 World Cup crown to their trophy cabinet via a 2-1 win.

  • Spain have seen over 2.5 goals scored in three of their last five World Cup games
  • France have seen over 2.5 goals scored in four of their six World Cup outings

Head To Head

Spain have won seven of their last 10 against France, with the latter wining twice and one game ending as a draw.

France Form

France were far too good for Morocco in the World Cup quarter-finals as they secured a 2-0 win that was built on denying their opponents any kind of momentum before using their incisive attack to breach their backline.

Their 2-0 victory over Morocco makes it six consecutive wins at the 2026 World Cup, with no side able to stop France from winning as yet. Spain constitute their biggest test so far, but the French will be very confident that they have enough to win this one.

Their record against Spain is not great having won one of their last 10. However, this French side has been the best in the competition both at the back and going forward. Their 16 goals scored in six games shows they are not missing the chance to hit the back of the net while four clean sheets in six outings is very impressive.

While France have four clean sheets across the tournament, I predict they will struggle to completely contain the Spanish. The sheer amount of pressure they will likely have to put up with will likely tell, but I back them to outscore their opponents in a thrilling game in which they secure the win.

Spain Form

Spain profited from a late goalkeeping error in their clash with Belgium as they snuck into the semi-finals of the World Cup on the back of a 2-1 win.

This win saw Spain extend their winning run to five matches, while they are unbeaten at the World Cup when including their 0-0 draw with Cape Verde in their opener. Up until their clash with Belgium, Spain had kept a clean sheet in each match, with this run extending across five games.

Against France, Spain will have their work cut out if they are to keep a clean sheet. Across their six outings, Kylian Mbappe has only been denied a goal by Norway, although this match still saw him notch two assists. Across the tournament, Mbappe has had 11 direct goal involvements (eight goals, three assists), and I back the French forward to give Spain the type of problems that will really test them.

Verdict

I am backing France to storm into the FIFA World Cup final on the back of an entertaining semi-final against Spain.
