Melbourne City vs Auckland FC Preview & Tips
Melbourne City have struggled for momentum of late, with a single win coming from their last six matches in the A-League.
Auckland FC are looking to extend their unbeaten run to three-matches as they travel to take on City this week.
- The home side have won one of their last six (D2, L3)
- Auckland FC have drawn one of their last two away games (W1)
Head To Head
The pair have only met twice before, with Auckland FC winning once and one game ending as a draw.
Melbourne City Form
Melbourne City have put themselves under a lot of pressure of late, with their fans seeing them secure a single win across their last six matches.
Their poor run means that, excluding their 1-0 win over Brisbane, they have not won since they beat Newcastle Jets 1-0 back on December 6. Their needless dropping of points means they are now seven short of Auckland FC at the summit, while they are becoming embroiled in a real scrap for the top six spots.
With their poor run in mind, it is difficult to see City winning this match. Auckland are in good form once again this season and look tough to beat. However, having drawn with their opponents on the only occasion City have hosted this contest, I am backing the two to share the points again.
Auckland FC Form
Auckland FC saw-off the challenge of Brisbane Roar in their last match as they continued to impress this season with a 2-0 win.
Seven wins in 12 outings in the league this term is a good return, while they have only lost twice. The 24 points they have picked up means they top the ladder, but with Sydney FC two points behind them with a game in hand, Auckland will know they cannot afford to let their levels drop.
While City have been poor this season, they will need little reason to get fired up for this match. Auckland arrive looking to stamp their authority on the league, but I predict that they will meet an opponent that refuses to be moved, with this resulting in consecutive draws with City when travelling to face their opponents.
Verdict
I am backing the spoils to be shared as Auckland drop points on the road.
