Mexico vs Australia Preview & Tips
Mexico are aiming to build on their six-game unbeaten run ahead of their FIFA World Cup campaign this summer.
Australia eased to a 5-1 win over Curacao in their last outing as they extended their winning run to two matches.
- Mexico have drawn six of their last 12 matches across competitions (W4, L2)
Head To Head
The pair have only met three times before, with Australia winning twice and one game ending as a draw.
Mexico Form
Mexico head into the FIFA World Cup looking to continue a run of form that has seen them avoid defeat since a 2-1 loss to Paraguay back in November 2025.
Since then, they have beaten Panama, Bolivia, Iceland and Ghana, while they have drawn with European heavyweights Portugal and Belgium. Their unbeaten streak bodes well heading into a World Cup group that contains South Africa, South Korea and Czechia.
While Australia do not rank in the same category as Portugal and Belgium, I predict they will secure a similar result against Mexico. Mexico are yet to beat their opponents, with defeats in 1997 and 2001 coming alongside a battling 2-2 draw in 2023, with wins over the Aussies tough to come by.
While a win in this match would be ideal heading into the World Cup, ensuring their unbeaten run is not brought to an end is even more important. With this in mind, I back Mexico to extend their unbeaten streak to seven matches with another draw.
Australia Form
Australia head into a World Cup group they will feel they have every chance of topping. With Group D also containing the USA, Paraguay and Türkiye, the Aussies will feel that one of the top spots is there for the taking.
Heading into their clash with Mexico, Australia have looked fairly good. In their last eight the Aussies have won five times with three games ending in defeat. Their last two have seen Australia beat Cameroon 1-0 before easing past Curacao in a 5-1 win.
The quality of opposition jumps up in this one, and I predict that this will see their winning run brought to an end. While it will be frustrating to see their winning streak curtailed, like Mexico, extending an unbeaten run is more important that gambling a positive streak.
Verdict
I am backing the pair to battle to a draw in their friendly as the two sides prove they are well-matched.
