Carlos Alcaraz vs Corentin Moutet Preview & Tips

Carlos Alcaraz enjoyed a decent workout against Yannick Hanfmann in the second round as he secured a 7-6 6-3 6-2 win.

Corentin Moutet battled back from a set down to eventually eliminate Michael Zheng in the second round.

This will be the first time the pair have met in a competitive tennis match.

Carlos Alcaraz was given a real test in the first set of his clash with Yannick Hanfmann as he eventually ran out 7-6 winner to set up what became a comfortable win.

While Hanfmann clearly ran out of steam as the clash wore on, he gave Alcaraz some issues in the first set. This, coupled with Adam Walton taking Alcaraz into a tie break in the second set in round one has seen the Spaniard asked some questions in the opening two rounds.

Despite coming through both matches in straight sets, it is worth noting that he has been given some problems. Similarly, Alcaraz has failed to make it past the quarter-finals of the tournament in four attempts, showing that he has not had the same affinity for the first Slam of the year as he has for the others.

While I back Alcaraz to notch a 3-0 win in this match, I question whether he is currently playing well enough to finally end his duck and win a maiden Australian Open crown.

Corentin Moutet Form

Corentin Moutet began the Australian Open in 2026 with a very impressive 6-4 7-6 6-3 win over Tristan Schoolkate.

He was then given more of a workout in the second round as he benefitted from Michael Zheng retiring with the score at 3-6 6-1 6-3 2-0. While Moutet was on course to romp to a win in four sets, he will likely have been happy to have exited the court quickly with Alcaraz waiting in the next round.

Moutet comes into the third round of the competition having matched his best ever run, which came back in 2025. While he is yet to lose in 2026, the standard of opponent he faces this weeks climbs about as high as it can, and I predict a comfortable defeat.
