Carlos Alcaraz vs Novak Djokovic Preview & Tips
Carlos Alcaraz came through a thrilling five-set clash with Alexander Zverev in the semi-finals as he kept his dream of winning the Australian Open alive.
Novak Djokovic also needed five sets to defeat Jannik Sinner as the former thrilled in a pulsating semi-final clash.
Head To Head
The pair have met nine times in total, with Djokovic winning five matches and Alcaraz winning four times. Djokovic has won two of the last three meetings involving the pair including their only meeting at the Australian Open last year.
Carlos Alcaraz Form
Carlos Alcaraz went from perfect at the Australian Open heading into the semi-final to being pushed all the way in one of the matches of the tournament against Alexander Zverev.
In his previous four rounds at the tournament this season, Alcaraz had won 3-0 in every match, but he saw a 2-0 lead slip in the semi-final as Zverev battled back. While Alcaraz did eventually run out the winner in a 6-4 7-6 6-7 6-7 7-5 triumph, he did look shaky at times in a clash that went back and forth.
While Alcaraz is the favourite to secure the trophy this weekend, it is worth bearing in mind a few things. First, he has never won the Australian Open, with this the only of the four Slams he has failed to win. Second, he has lost his only clash with Djokovic at the Australian Open, falling in the quarter-final last year.
With Alcaraz looking shaky in the semi-final when he was really tested, I am backing the Australian Open crown to elude him once more as Djokovic extends his positive record over the Spaniard.
Novak Djokovic Form
It was one of Novak Djokovic's best performances for years, with his semi-final triumph over Jannik Sinner one few truly believed would happen.
A 3-6 6-3 4-6 6-4 6-4 win saw the pair match each-other's scores right up until the final set as Djokovic somehow found a way to eliminate his opponent. His semi-final triumph means that Djokovic is now a single win away from finally securing the 25th Grand Slam crown that has evaded him.
The last time the pair met, Alcaraz won in three-sets at the US Open. However, prior to this, Djokovic had won successive matches, including their only meeting at the Australian Open in 2025.
While Djokovic will be pushed to his limit by a superbly talented opponent, I am backing arguably the greatest tennis player of all time to show once more why he has won so many Grand Slam crowns.
Verdict
I am backing Novak Djokovic to triumph at the Australian Open in a 3-2 win as he finally secures his 25th Grand Slam title.
