Carlos Alcaraz vs Yannick Hanfmann Preview & Tips
Carlos Alcaraz eased to a 3-0 win over Adam Walton in his opening match of 2026 as he began the new year in style.
Yannick Hanfmann had to be at his very best to beat Zachary Svajda in the opening round as he secured a battling 3-1 win.
Head To Head
Carlos Alcaraz has won both of his meetings with Hanfmann, securing a pair of 2-0 wins in 2019 and 2023.
Carlos Alcaraz Form
Carlos Alcaraz is eyeing his seventh Grand Slam crown after storming to six major titles despite only being 22.
At Melbourne, Alcaraz has won 11 of his 15 outings. While he holds a very impressive record on hard courts, he has been surprisingly poor at the Australian Open. Indeed, a pair of quarter-final eliminations in 2024 and 2025 constitutes his best run at the competition in four attempts.
Despite his woes at the first Slam of the year, it is difficult to see anything other than a 3-0 win for Alcaraz in this one. Across his 155 hard court outings, Alcaraz has won 126 times, and I back him to secure his 127th win in the second round.
Yannick Hanfmann Form
Yannick Hanfmann made sure that losing the second set to see the score levelled at 1-1 with Zachary Svajda did not end in him relinquishing his place in the second round.
His 7-5 4-6 6-4 7-6 win over Svajda was one that saw Hanfmann secure his first win of the year. After returning a solid 46 wins and 28 defeats in 2025, Hanfmann is now eyeing an every better run in 2026. He has already bettered any of his Slam attempts from 2025, with first round eliminations in Australia and France his best runs.
While he has already been better in 2026, I predict he will have to remain content with a run to the second round as he is eliminated by Alcaraz in straight sets.
Verdict
I am backing another 3-0 win for Alcaraz as he moves into the third round without dropping a set.
