Jannik Sinner vs James Duckworth Preview & Tips
Jannik Sinner benefitted from Hugo Gaston having to retire in their first round clash as he secured a 6-2 6-1 win.
James Duckworth was taken to five sets by Dino Prizmic in the first round as he battled back from 2-1 down to win his opener.
Head To Head
The pair have met three times before, with Sinner winning twice and Duckworth winning once.
Jannik Sinner Form
While Jannik Sinner advanced to the second round of the Australian Open by virtue of Hugo Gaston retiring at the end of the second set, few would believe that the clash would go past a quick third set with Sinner 6-2 6-1 up.
Heading into 2026's iteration of the tournament, Sinner is looking to extend his stunning run of triumphs at the competition as he eyes three trophies on the spin. At the Australian Open, Sinner boasts 23 wins in 27 matches, and it is tough to see the Italian losing this one.
With 163 wins across his career on hard courts, I predict that Sinner will easily win this one as he eases to a 3-0 triumph on his way into the third round.
James Duckworth Form
James Duckworth just about did enough to eliminate Dino Prizmic in the first round. Despite going 1-0 up, Duckworth fell apart in the second and third sets, losing 3-6 1-6.
He rallied in fine style to triumph 7-5 6-3 in the fourth and fifth sets, but his lapse in performance across the middle portion of the match will be a worry. Across his career, Duckworth has never managed to go beyond the second round of the Australian Open, with eliminations in qualifying and the first round making up most of his performances down under.
While Duckworth has won one of his three against Sinner, his sole triumph came back in 2021. Since then, Sinner has gone to another level, and I back this to be reflected in their meeting this week.
Verdict
I am backing a 3-0 win for Sinner in his second round outing as he eliminates Duckworth.
