Jannik Sinner vs Luciano Darderi Preview & Tips
Jannik Sinner dropped a set for the first time at the Australian Open in 2026 as he came from 1-0 down beat beat Eliot Spizzirri.
Luciano Darderi was excellent against Karen Khachanov in the third round as he continued his excellent run at the Australian Open.
Head To Head
This will be the first time the pair have met in a competitive tennis match.
Jannik Sinner Form
Jannik Sinner's Australian Open campaign has seen the reigning champion win in two, three and four sets so far, starting with a 6-2 6-1 win over Hugo Gaston, who retired ahead of the third set.
In Sinner's latest outing, he was on the edge of a stunning loss after going 1-0 down to Eliot Spizzirri. While he did bounce back to eventually secure a 4-6 6-3 6-4 6-4 win, the first set did show that he is not unbeatable.
At the Australian Open, Sinner has won 24 of his 28 outings, winning the tournament in his last two attempts. With this in mind, I predict that Sinner will continue his powerful run as he gets back to winning in straight sets.
Luciano Darderi Form
Luciano Darderi has been in good touch at the Australian Open so far, with his run of three consecutive wins ensuring he has made his hard court record positive at 34 victories and 31 defeats.
Darderi's battle to the fourth round of the Australian Open constitutes his best run at the competition having been eliminated in qualifying in 2023 and 2024, before losing in the first round at 2025.
While Darderi has looked good in 2026 boasting four wins and one defeat. he is completely outmatched by Sinner. I predict a comfortable 3-0 loss for Darderi in this one as his Australian Open campaign is brought to an end.
Verdict
I am backing Sinner to ease to a third win to nil in four attempts at the Australian Open this year.
