England vs New Zealand T20 World Cup Preview & Tips
England have been excellent across the Super 8's stage, winning their opening two matches and booking their place in the semi-finals of the World Cup.
New Zealand will be aiming for a second consecutive win in the Super 8's stage, with victory sending them to the top of the group.
- England have won their last four World Cup outings
- Adil Rashid has taken nine wickets for England at the competition
Head To Head
England have won seven of their last 10 against New Zealand, with the Black Caps securing three wins in this time.
England Form
England have managed to put their 30-run loss to the West Indies behind them by securing consecutive wins over Scotland, Italy, Sri Lanka and Pakistan.
Their last game against Pakistan saw the English restrict their opponents to 164/9 with an excellent bowling display. While England did slip to 58/4, they were guided home by Harry Brook's century, with their captain in fine form with the bat.
While Adil Rashid only took one wicket against Pakistan, the spinner still looked dangerous, and I predict that he will star against New Zealand. His four overs may prove the difference between the two sides, and I back England to come out on top in this massive clash as they top the group.
New Zealand Form
New Zealand have their fate in their own hands, knowing that if they can avoid defeat against England, then they will move into the semi-finals.
Of course, banking on an abandoned game is not a good tactic, meaning the Black Caps will target another big performance after they hammered Sri Lanka in their last game. In that clash, the Black Caps rallied from 84/6 to post a competitive 168/7.
While New Zealand looked brittle with the bat against Sri Lanka, their bowlers were well on top, restricting their opponents to 107/8 in their 20 overs. The pace of Sri Lanka's innings was all wrong, but this was brought about by intelligent and economical bowling for New Zealand that resulted in the pressure ramping up and the wickets falling.
Against England, New Zealand will have to find a way to curtail the aggressive batting unit of their opponents. While I predict a close game, I am backing England to secure the win as they leave New Zealand's place in the competition hanging in the balance.
Verdict
I am backing Adil Rashid to get New Zealand into a spin as England make it three consecutive wins in the Super 8's stage.
