New Zealand vs Canada T20 World Cup Preview & Tips
New Zealand are looking to bounce back from their loss to South Africa at the first time of asking, with their perfect run at the World Cup brought to a grinding halt.
Canada are yet to pick up a point at the 2026 World Cup after slipping to defeats in their opening two matches.
- The Black Caps have won three of their last four T20's in all competitions (L1)
- Tim Seifert averages 83.50 at the World Cup this year
Head To Head
This will be the first time the two nations have played one-another in a competitive cricket match.
New Zealand Form
New Zealand were outplayed by South Africa in their last World Cup match as the Proteas battered them with bat and ball.
Batting first, the Black Caps were restricted to just 175/7, with Mark Chapman top scoring with 48 from 26. In reply, Aiden Markram starred for South Africa as he hammered his way to 86 not out from 44. With New Zealand unable to remove South Africa's captain, they ultimately paid for their lack of incision with the ball as they were beaten by seven-wickets.
Now, the Black Caps turn their attention to a match they should win comfortably. Canada arrive without a win in their opening two, with victory in this one seriously strengthening New Zealand's hopes of moving into the Super 8.
While Tim Seifert was not at his best against South Africa, I back him to be among the runs once again as he hammers Canada's bowlers to all corners of the field.
Canada Form
Canada look out of their depth at the 2026 World Cup, with the side a single defeat away from a group stage exit at the competition.
Defeat by five-wickets was followed a comfortable 57-run loss to South Africa, with this seeing Canada slip to a fourth consecutive T20 defeat in all competitions. Without a win from their opening two matches, Canada will slide six points short of New Zealand in second, seeing them eliminated with one game to go.
Victory in this one would keep them alive in the group, although any notion of a win in this one is fanciful. I merely predict that two defeats will become three as they are kept at the foot of the ladder.
Verdict
I am backing New Zealand to secure a crucial win as Tim Seifert goes past the 30-run mark for the Black Caps.
