New Zealand vs Pakistan T20 World Cup Preview & Tips
New Zealand looked strong in their last World Cup group game against Canada as they stormed to an eight-wicket win over their opponents.
Pakistan easily beat Namibia in their last outing as they secured a statement 102-run win in their final group game.
- Pakistan have won six of their last seven T20's in all competitions (L1)
- Tim Seifert is New Zealand's top run scorer at the 2026 World Cup (173 runs)
Head To Head
New Zealand have won six of their last 10 T20's against Pakistan, with the latter winning the other four meetings.
New Zealand Form
New Zealand secured the bounce back win they needed after their loss to South Africa, with a comfortable eight-wicket win over Canada constituting their third victory at the tournament this year.
Against Canada, Glenn Phillips (76 not out) starred with the bat after Canada had battled their way to 173/4. The major worry for the Black Caps will be that they have lost their only match when setting the target.
When chasing, they have easily beaten Afghanistan, the UAE and Canada, meaning winning the toss may prove crucial. Tim Seifert continues to star with the bat for the Black Caps, and I predict that he will go beyond the 20-run mark after notching 173 runs to this point.
However, with their loss to South Africa in mind, I believe that the Black Caps will sink to a defeat at the hands of their opponents. Pakistan have looked good at the tournament so far and if they can bat second, I predict this will end in a loss for the Black Caps.
Pakistan Form
Pakistan could not afford another defeat after their comfortable 61-run loss to India in their third game, with poor performances heading into the Super 8 stage something that would likely end in elimination before the semi-finals.
Against Namibia, Pakistan were superb. With the bat, they hammered their way to 199/3 before skittling their opponents for 97. While Pakistan should beat Namibia, World Cup matches can often be nervy places for the better side. This has not been the case for this Pakistan side yet though.
Against New Zealand, I predict that their impressive form will continue. Pakistan have won 12 of their last 15 in the T20 format, and they look very comfortable on the pitches they have been playing on. With this in mind, I am backing Pakistan to secure a crucial win in their opening Super 8 match.
Verdict
While I back Tim Seifert to go well with the bat again, I do not predict he will end on the winning side as Pakistan secure the points.
