West Indies vs New Zealand Women T20 World Cup Preview & Tips

West Indies are in desperate need of a turn in form after losing their last three matches in the build-up to the World Cup.

New Zealand look in good touch heading into the World Cup with a five-wicket win over South Africa in their last outing helping to make it consecutive wins in the shortest format.

  • West Indies have lost their last six T20's against New Zealand

Head To Head

New Zealand have won eight of their last 10 against the West Indies in the T20 format with the latter winning the other two.

West Indies Women Form

West Indies Women slumped to a comfortable loss at the hands of Australia in their final World Cup warm up match as their five-wicket defeat put into perspective just how far behind the best they are.

Batting first, the Windies laboured to 131 from 20 overs. They then saw Australia storm to 132/4 in 15 overs. With six wickets and 30 deliveries left to spare, the Aussies barely got out of second gear in a big win.

For the Windies, this was a third consecutive loss following defeats to Ireland and India. Their loss to Ireland came in the tightest of margins as they were beaten by a single run. Against India, the West Indies were easily beaten in a 26-run loss.

Having lost their last six matches against New Zealand in the T20 game, it is tough to see the Windies getting anything from this one.

New Zealand Women Form

New Zealand Women were brilliant in their last warm up match prior to the World Cup as they edged to a five-wicket win over a South Africa side that will hope to lift the trophy this year.

In that game, Amelia Kerr starred with a score of 61 from 32, while Sophie Devine's 28 from 13 saw her go at a strike rate of 215.38. To chase down a score of 183 with five wickets and two deliveries to spare against a world class opponent like South Africa is a massive statement and shows the reigning champions are ready for their title defence.

While the West Indies will give New Zealand issues, they are not a side that have enjoyed their time against the world champions. I predict that New Zealand's impressive six-match winning run over their opponents will be extended to seven victories.

Verdict

I am backing New Zealand to ease to a victory over the West Indies as they begin their title defence with a win.
