Newcastle Jets vs Auckland FC Preview & Tips
The Newcastle Jets could move seven points clear at the summit of the A-League if they can defeat Auckland FC at the weekend.
Auckland FC know how important a win is this weekend, with the side able to move to within a point of the leaders with victory.
- The Jets have won their last four home games
- Both sides have scored in the last three meetings between the clubs
Head To Head
The Jets have won two of the four meetings between the sides including the last two matches. Meanwhile, Auckland have won once with one game ending as a draw.
Newcastle Jets Form
The Newcastle Jets continued their stunning run of form in the A-League with yet another win as they downed WS Wanderers 2-1 in their last outing.
This win extended their unbeaten run to 11 matches, while it ensured they bounced back from a disappointing 0-0 draw with the Central Coast Mariners. With the exception of their draw with Central Coast, the Jets have won their last 10 in a dominant run of form.
The form of the leaders has clearly woken Auckland FC up, with their opponents misfiring prior to a five-game unbeaten run. With a draw or victory in this mouth-watering fixture one that the Jets will know benefits them, I predict that the home side will go all out for the latter. Another win will send them seven points clear at the summit, and I predict they will notch their seventh win in 11 home games.
Auckland FC Form
Auckland FC were denied a third consecutive win in the A-League by Perth Glory last week as their struggling opponents secured a battling draw.
Dropping two points means Auckland slipped four points short of the leaders meaning they are unable to move above their opponents with a win. Despite this, Auckland’s need for a win is huge. Not only would it drag them to within a point, but it would also extend their own unbeaten run to six matches whilst ending the Jets’ run.
The travelling side have managed to breach the defence of their opponents in their last three meetings and I back them to extend this run to four games, but I do not back them to win this match. The Jets have been outstanding of late and will likely extend their winning run against the Kiwi side to three matches.
Verdict
I am backing the Jets to secure three crucial points despite failing to keep a clean sheet for the fourth consecutive time against their opponents.
