Aryna Sabalenka proved far too strong for Teodora Kostovic in her last outing as she hammered her opponent 6-2 6-3.
McCartney Kessler was outstanding in the opening round as she humiliated Oleksandra Oliynykova 6-0 6-0.

Aryna Sabalenka arrived for Wimbledon on the back of a solid run in Berlin that saw her lose to Jessica Pegula in the semi-final. This came on the back of a stunning quarter-final exit to Diana Shnaider at the French Open in early June.
With just two chances remaining to win a Grand Slam in 2026, Sabalenka knows that she needs to keep building the momentum in London. Her quarter-final loss at the French Open followed a defeat in the final of the Australian Open at the start of the season.
Last year, Sabalenka fell in the semi-finals at Wimbledon, while she was beaten in the finals in Australia and France. A triumph at the US Open constituted her only Slam in 2025, with the star failing to really come through on all of her talent on the court.
After hammering Teodora Kostovic in the first round, I am backing her to defeat McCartney Kessler in the second round. While her opponent is yet to drop a game at the tournament this year, I do not see Sabalenka affording her any room to work in this one.
McCartney Kessler Form
McCartney Kessler hammered Oleksandra Oliynykova in the first round as she easily beat her opponent in a 6-0 6-0 triumph.
This win made it three victories across her last four outings after making it to the quarter-finals at Eastbourne. However, the last time she took on a genuinely strong player saw Kessler lose 6-3 6-1 to Madison Keys, with Kessler nowhere near good enough.
Kessler's current run will see her match her runs at the Australian Open and French Open, with the second round the furthest she has gone at Slams in 2026. While Kessler was brilliant in the first round, I do not see her beating the best player on the tour.
Verdict
I am backing Sabalenka to win in straight sets as she storms to a 2-0 win.
